Tortilla Croissant

Tortilla Croissant

Recipe by AlexPrep: 5 minCook: 15 minTotal: 20 minServes 2Easy

These little spiral bites turn a single ham-and-cheese tortilla into a batch of crisp, croissant-like rounds, and the air fryer browns them in 15 minutes at 180°C (350°F). Rolling the tortilla tightly matters: a loose roll traps air, so the spirals unwind and the cheese leaks out before the outside crisps. Cut the roll into 2–3 cm (1 in) pieces and line them up in a single layer so the hot air reaches each one. They are done when the edges turn deep golden and the cheese just starts to bubble from the spiral. Pepperoni or salami swap in for the ham without changing the timing.

Instructions

  1. 1

Spread pizza sauce on a tortilla. Add slices of ham and layer on cheese.

  2. 2

Roll up tightly and slice into 2–3 cm pieces. Line the rolls up in the air fryer.

  3. 3

Cook at 180°C / 350°F for 15 minutes until golden and crispy with oozing cheese. Make a second batch — they won’t last long.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are they called croissants?

The crisp, golden, flaky-edged spiral rounds look and crunch a little like mini croissants — but they are made from a rolled tortilla, no pastry.

What cheese melts best in tortilla croissants?

Any cheese that melts smoothly works. Mozzarella gives the classic stretch, while cheddar adds a sharper, saltier flavor; a half-and-half mix covers both. Grated cheese spreads more evenly than slices and melts a little faster, so every ring gets its share by the time the outside turns golden.

What fillings work?

Anything melty: pepperoni, salami, mushrooms or just extra cheese. Keep fillings thin so the rolls crisp and do not unravel.
